Our physicians have many years of experience in the management of skin cancers of the face, nose, ears, scalp and neck. As part of board certification, training in facial plastic and reconstructive techniques is included. Most skin cancers require removal, some with simple excisions, but some with more complex excision and reconstruction with flaps or grafts. Every attempt is made to preserve function and obtain a good cosmetic result. Unless the cancer is very large and requires complex reconstruction, the lesion is usually excised in the office with local anesthesia.
Some precancerous lesions in sun damaged skin, called actinic keratosis, can be treated by freezing them with liquid nitrogen. This is available in the office.
Facial plastics experience and training allows for expert care of patients with facial trauma, including fractures and lacerations. Eyelid and nasal cosmetic surgery is available. A stand-alone operating suite lends itself to patient comfort and gives the surgeons an environment that facilitates their technique if the procedure is amenable to treatment under local anesthesia.
